How to compress TIFF files
Upload your TIFF file
Drag and drop a file or click to select one. Keep this page open while the file uploads and converts.
Compress the file
NexMedia re-encodes your TIFF file on its own servers at the quality you choose. Processing time depends on the file size and how busy the queue is.
Download the compressed file
When the compression finishes, the download appears on this page. Your compressed file is kept for 2 hours, then deleted.
About TIFF
the high-fidelity format of scanning, print and photography workflows
TIFF is the workhorse of print and archival imaging: it stores pixels with little or no compression, often at 16 bits per channel, which is why scanners and photo labs hand over TIFF files.
TIFF barely compresses: an uncompressed 24-megapixel scan at 16 bits per channel is around 140 MB, and even LZW-compressed TIFFs keep every bit of the scan's weight.
What compressing TIFF does
Compressing a TIFF finally spends those bits sensibly: WebP, AVIF or JPEG XL hold the visible image in a small fraction of the space, or a lossless mode preserves the data exactly.
A 140 MB uncompressed TIFF scan commonly becomes a 10–20 MB WebP at visually matched quality, or a 60–90 MB lossless JPEG XL that keeps every sample.
Settings you can change
Before you compress TIFF, you can adjust: Width, Height, Scale fit, Crop position, Never enlarge, Quality, Lossless, Progressive, Remove metadata, Auto-orient from EXIF, Rotate, and Background.
Limits
Guests can compress files up to 100 megabytes and run 5 conversions per day; a free account raises this to 500 megabytes and 25 per day; paid plans go up to 100 gigabytes.
Your compressed TIFF file is kept for 2 hours, then deleted.
Compressing TIFF: questions and answers
Will compressing TIFF reduce quality?
For viewing and sharing, a high-quality lossy encode of a TIFF is indistinguishable — the source carries so much data that the encoder discards only what the eye cannot see.
Can TIFF files be compressed without any loss?
Yes. TIFF is frequently lossless, and JPEG XL's lossless mode is built for exactly this hand-off: every sample kept, at a fraction of the size.
Which settings can I change when compressing TIFF?
You can adjust: Width, Height, Scale fit, Crop position, Never enlarge, Quality, Lossless, Progressive, Remove metadata, Auto-orient from EXIF, Rotate, and Background. the quality slider is the lever for viewing copies, while a lossless target keeps the file's full fidelity for archiving
How much smaller will my TIFF file get?
Uncompressed TIFFs shrink by 85–95% into a lossy web format; lossless JPEG XL still typically halves the file.
How large a TIFF file can I compress for free?
Guests can compress files up to 100 megabytes and run 5 conversions per day; a free account raises this to 500 megabytes and 25 per day; paid plans go up to 100 gigabytes. Your compressed file is kept for 2 hours, then deleted.
