About RAF files

Fujifilm's camera RAW format

RAF is the RAW format of Fujifilm cameras, including those with X-Trans sensors.

Fujifilm X and GFX series cameras.

RAF: what conversion changes

Converting RAF develops RAW.

RAF: settings to change

Before you convert RAF files, you can adjust: Width, Height, Scale fit, Crop position, Never enlarge, Quality, Lossless, Progressive, Remove metadata, Auto-orient from EXIF, Rotate, and Background.

Limits of the RAF format

X-Trans sensors use a colour filter pattern unlike the usual Bayer layout, so RAF files develop differently from one converter to another.

Common questions about RAF

Why does my Fujifilm RAF file take so long to open in my editor? Fujifilm writes an unusual compressed RAW layout that many programs decode slowly or not at all — converting to JPG or DNG makes editing instant.

Can Windows open RAF raw files? Fujifilm's RAF is read by macOS and by Fujifilm's own software, but Windows needs a codec and most phones cannot open it. Converting to JPG or TIFF makes the file viewable everywhere.
