CAD Converter

Render DWG and DXF drawings to images or PDF with layer filtering.

2 formats supported

  • AutoCAD DWG
  • AutoCAD DXF

About this converter

CAD drawings are technical files rather than pictures. DWG is AutoCAD's native format, DXF is its documented interchange format, and both describe layers, blocks, line types and geometry. People bring floor plans, schematics, parts drawings and surveys, usually to show them to someone without CAD software or to place them in a document.

The converter reads both formats below and writes the output you choose. A drawing can become a vector file, a raster image or a PDF, and the layers can be filtered before rendering. Because the output is a picture of the drawing, the geometry is preserved as it appears rather than as editable CAD objects.

How it works

Choose an output format

Pick the format you want the result in before you add anything. Every file in the queue is converted to that one format, so the choice shapes the whole run.

Add your files

Drop files onto the page or use the file picker. Each file is checked against the formats this tool accepts, and anything that does not match is reported by name.

Download the result

When a conversion finishes, download the converted file. Uploads and results are deleted after 2 hours, so keep your own copy.

Formats you can convert

The CAD catalog covers the two formats AutoCAD made standard. Both are recognised on upload, and the target you choose decides whether the drawing leaves as a vector, an image or a PDF.

  • AutoCAD DWG — AutoCAD's native drawing format, read here and never written
  • AutoCAD DXF — the documented interchange format that CAD programs share

Quality and what changes

A CAD drawing is converted by rendering its layers, not by translating every CAD object. Line work, text and blocks appear in the output as they would on screen, while editing information such as constraints and block definitions is not carried over. Raster targets fix the drawing at one resolution, vector targets keep it scalable, and PDF combines both for sharing. Layer filtering can hide parts of the drawing before it is rendered.

Privacy and limits

Guests can convert files up to 100 megabytes and run 5 conversions per day. A free account raises the limit to 500 megabytes and 25 conversions per day, and paid plans go up to 100 gigabytes.

Files you upload and the results you download are kept only long enough for you to collect them and are deleted after 2 hours. After that window nothing of yours remains on the server.

You do not need an account to convert a file; signing in only raises the size and daily limits.

Questions and answers

Which CAD format should I choose?

Choose DWG when an AutoCAD user must open the original drawing, and DXF when another CAD program needs an interchange file. Both are read here; neither is produced as an output.

Can the result be edited as a CAD drawing?

No. The converter renders the drawing into an image, vector or PDF, so the result is a picture of the geometry rather than an editable CAD file. Use the original DWG or DXF when further editing is needed.

Can I hide layers before converting?

Layer filtering is part of the drawing flow, so you can render only the layers you need. Hidden layers do not appear in the output, and the visible ones keep their colours and line types.

What size drawing can I convert?

The plan limits apply to the uploaded DWG or DXF file. Large drawings may render slowly because every visible layer has to be drawn, and the result is deleted after 2 hours.
